Jurassic Quest: Navy Pier

  • “In addition to the life-like Dinosaur Exhibits, there are many attractions and activities for all kinds of dinosaur fans. Our guests can dig up fossils like a real paleontologist, they can ride on the back of a huge 24ft T. Rex, or the spiky, overgrown, Carnotaurus among others. There are countless dinosaur themed rides throughout the event including inflatable mazes, huge slides, and the multitrack Dino Bungee Pull. Jurassic Quest has a Dinosaur Petting Zoo where little ones can pet dinosaurs that are more their size.   • Neon Summer Chicago is an all ages event. While the experience is fun for all ages prior to 7pm, please keep in mind after 7pm the festivities turn boozy so we recommend families come out during our earlier hours. All ages are welcome to stay throughout the event as long as they want. After 7pm, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Admission into Neon Summer Chicago Pop-Up, including access to 9-Hole Pop Mini Golf course, Bocce ball and Instagramable experiences.   • “The Art Ensemble of Chicago is an avant-garde jazz group that grew out of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in the late 1960s. The ensemble integrates many jazz styles and plays many instruments, including “little instruments”: bells, bicycle horns, birthday party noisemakers, wind chimes, and various forms of percussion. The musicians wear costumes and face paint while performing. These characteristics combine to make the ensemble’s performances both aural and visual.”

  • The seventh annual Junior Tour de Naperville is coming back to Commissioners Park in 2019.  Hosted by the Naperville Park District, the event gives kids ages 3-10 the opportunity to ride their bicycles, big wheels or tricycles around the 1.2-mile trail, cheered on by family and friends.

10:00 AM: Chicago Botanic Garden Kite Festival

  • 10 am – 3 pm; Saturday & Sunday
  • “The Kite Festival will take place in the meadow west of Evening Island. Visitors can walk there or take the free tram. Ice cream treats, beverages, and many lunch options will be available for purchase on-site.
  • Enjoy soaring stunt-kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois.
  • In addition to watching the professionals, feel free to bring your own kite to participate in public fly time, or make a kite to fly at the kite-making workshop. Sign up for the Kids’ Mad Dash.   • “Every summer since 1929, “The Bud” has united African-Americans throughout the city of Chicago in music, dance, food, and laughter. It’s one of the only spaces where we can openly and emphatically praise the historic roots that plant us into the South Side of Chicago.”

  • It stretches two miles down Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, through the historic Bronzeville neighborhood, into Washington Park.

  • “The fun will start with a ride on a vintage trolley car along the banks of the scenic Fox River ending at Jon Duerr Forest Preserve. Once there, the Museum will have a picnic with food, drinks and games for everyone!
    Located at a crook in the Fox River, the Preserve offers a scenic setting, complete with wildlife, trails, picnic shelters, rest rooms, and a little known 8-ft waterfall. It also features the historical burial site of unknown soldiers in General Scott’s Army during the Blackhawk War of 1832. Following the picnic the trolley will take us back to the Fox River Trolley Museum.”

  • “This event comes on the eve of the park’s signature event, French Connection Day. Enjoy a French-theme picnic (available for pre-purchase), live music from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm performed by a Chicago Sinfonietta four-piece ensemble, and stargazing. The park’s 23-foot Eiffel Tower will be illuminated, adding a touch of Paris to the festivities.  From 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, silhouette artist Cassidy Alexander will create a memory for you to take home as well!As darkness falls, view the stars and planets through your own telescope or one provided by the Naperville Astronomical Association (NAA), Northwest Suburban Astronomers, and the Chicago Astronomical Society (CAS). If the sky is clear, this will be an ideal night to witness the beautiful night sky.  The NAA will also be presenting “What I Can See from My Backyard in the Suburbs” at 7 pm in the Visitors Center Theater (seating is limited and first-come, first-serve).”

  • Join us for a fun-filled adventure after hours at the Arboretum to explore the night’s theme with a tram ride, activities, and a hike.   • “The Kite Festival will take place in the meadow west of Evening Island. Visitors can walk there or take the free tram. Ice cream treats, beverages, and many lunch options will be available for purchase on-site.
  • Enjoy soaring stunt-kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois.
  • In addition to watching the professionals, feel free to bring your own kite to participate in public fly time, or make a kite to fly at the kite-making workshop. Sign up for the Kids’ Mad Dash. The first 30 kids to register will receive a kite to build and fly in the competition. Register in the Gift of Wings tent between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (or until registration is filled).”

10:00 AM: Lincolnshire Art Festival 2019

10:30 AM: The Rock and Roll Playhouse: Reggae for Kids

  • The Rock and Roll Playhouse will be performing your favorite reggae hits including the music of Bob Marley and other Jamaican legends. Your kids will be jammin’ with us on the dance floor!

11:00 AM: Neon Summer Pop Up

  • 5 week only pop -up
  • 1265 W. Le Moyne St, Chicago
  • Neon Summer Chicago is an all ages event. While the experience is fun for all ages prior to 7pm, please keep in mind after 7pm the festivities turn boozy so we recommend families come out during our earlier hours. All ages are welcome to stay throughout the event as long as they want. After 7pm, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Admission into Neon Summer Chicago Pop-Up, including access to 9-Hole Pop Mini Golf course, Bocce ball and Instagramable experiences. Go-Karts, Axe Throwing, food and full bar/drinks will be available for additional purchase onsite. Select your date, the time that works best for your group, arrive anytime within your 30-minute ticketing window and stay as long as you’d like! 
  • Go Kart racing is first come, first served and NOT included unless purchased, specifically in a package.

11:00 AM: L.L. Bean Back to School Bash

1:00 PM: Thirsty Ears Music Festival

  • Saturday, August 10 1:00 – 10:00 PM
    Sunday, August 11 1:00 – 9:00 PM
  • “For two days Wilson street between Hermitage and Ravenswood will be closed to feature seventeen stellar ensembles and soloists performing music from Beethoven to Shostakovich to Reich and everything in between on the main stage.We’ll also have delicious beer from Empirical Brewing, vendor booths, kid friendly activities and food trucks on both days. Highlights include a special performance of our Sound of Silent Film Festival Saturday at sundown and, to close out the fest on Sunday, a performance of our original radio play 1001 Afternoons in Chicago.”

2:00 PM: Old Town School of Folk Music Open House
